The KFSC board receives a briefing from CalFire Battalion Chief Brian York. We welcome his support as we work to bring information to areas outside of the four Home Owners Associations in our service area. York also provided valuable information about fuel reduction efforts around Thurston Lake and plans for prescribed burns around "The Black Forest" in the spring of 2023.
York says that progress has been made in increasing the number of inmate crews available for firefighting and fuel reduction efforts. During the COVID pandemic, the number of those crews in the region decreased by more than half.
